Harare - Zimbabwe's ruling Zanu-PF party sacked President Robert Mugabe as party leader and appointed vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa in his place, a BBC report says.

The sacking of Mr Mnangagwa had prompted an extraordinary chain of events as the military intervened to block Mr Mugabe, 93, from installing his wife Grace in his place, the report said on Sunday.
