Harare – Zimbabwe's ruling Zanu-PF is reportedly planning a "thank you party" for President Robert Mugabe when he arrives in Harare this weekend.

Mugabe is currently in New York where he attended the 71st UN general summit and delivered a speech in which he blamed the Western countries for the economic hardships faced by his country.

Social media users, however, made fun of the veteran leader's speech, with some saying they hoped this was the last time that he spoke at the UN.

NewsDay reported on Friday that Zanu-PF praised Mugabe for a "sterling job".

In a widely circulated WhatsApp message, the party’s Harare provincial commissar Shadreck Mashayamombe urged all party supporters to be at Harare International Airport on Saturday to welcome their leader.

"Every party member is invited to Harare International Airport on Saturday at 1pm, as we welcome the President, Cde RG Mugabe, and to support the great work he did together with our friends based in America. Everyone must be at the airport," Mashayamombe’s WhatsApp message reportedly read.

On his arrival on Saturday,  Mugabe was expected to respond to Botswana President Ian Khama's remarks after he called on him to leave office.

Khama said Mugabe was no longer capable of leading the southern African country out of its economic woes, adding that the nonagenarian had in fact, become a liability to the southern African region.

Mugabe has been under tremendous pressure lately, with the opposition and social media activists across the globe calling for him to step down.

Massive protests against Mugabe's "misrule" had been planned on his arrival in the US by the main opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), together with exiled cleric Evan Mawarire.

However, the plan was met with feisty resistance when a social movement group known as the December 12 gathered at the Zimbabwe UN mission offices in New York to welcome Mugabe whom they praised for providing them with "wise leadership".
