Masvingo - The ruling Zanu-PF party's national youth league has said that it is planning to build a multi-million "presidential palace" for President Robert Mugabe, 92, near the Great Zimbabwe monument in the Masvingo province.

According to The Standard, the youth league said the plans were at an advanced stage, with construction work scheduled to begin in July.

The party’s national youth league secretary, Pupurai Togarepi Pupurai, said that the provincial leadership was in support of the idea.

"Great Zimbabwe is crucial because it has historical links to this country and this palace will not be for accommodation only, but also a tourist attraction. Talks are at an advanced stage with the Masvingo provincial leadership and they are all supporting this great initiative," Togarepi was quoted saying.

This came amid reports that the youth league was also planning a million men march in honour of Mugabe.

The march was slated for the first week of May, with the youth league saying that they would be mobilising at least 100 000 young people from each of the country's 10 provinces.
