Harare – A Zimbabwean man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for repeatedly raping his employer’s 11-year-old daughter then buying her silence with a $1 bribe, a report on Friday said.

New Zimbabwe.com has reported that Andrew Gumbo, 19, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared in court.

Magistrate Morgan Nemadire sentenced the convicted rapist to 10 years behind bars; however, two years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that, sometime in May last year, Gumbo had proposed his love to the unnamed young girl, who at the time was 10-years-old.

It was revealed that Gumbo would then lure the young girl to his place, where he would rape her, and then give her a $1 to keep quiet.

Gumbo was caught in the act on March 18, 2017, by the girl’s sister, who then told the girl’s mother.

The young girl then revealed what Gumbo had been doing to her, leading to his arrest.

This come two days after an 18-year-old man had appeared in court for allegedly raping a 13-year-old church mate who had turned down his "love proposal".

The unnamed boy allegedly declared his love for the complainant, but when his advances were rejected, he raped her, before fleeing the scene.

The accused was arrested after a rape charge had been opened by the complainant, who was accompanied by her grandmother.

He was expected to appear again in court on May 4.
