Entertaining the rich and famous

His client list reads like Oscar night: Oprah, Tom Cruise, J-Lo, Jennifer Aniston, Jerry Seinfeld, Kim Kardashian… They’ve all had weddings, birthday parties and events created by Colin Cowie (there’s royalty, too, but he keeps them on the QT).

Not just a party planner, he has become an ‘ambassador of style’, a man who has mastered pageantry for the world of celebrity show-off.

Despite his mind-blowing events, Cowie insists he’s remained grounded, recalling cooking lessons in his mother’s East London kitchen.

‘I’m still a simple boy from South Africa. I’ve never changed.’

He still has traces of his accent (and annual visits home) to prove it.

A regular on NBC’s Today show and the Home Shopping Network, a frequent contributor to the world’s top magazines and author of nine books, Cowie consults to international hotels, retailers and airlines.

Not bad for the boy who left in 1985 with ‘$400, big dreams and a great tan’.

His big break came when he catered a film producer’s small gathering; next, he was choreographing Hugh Hefner’s 1987 wedding.

Today Colin Cowie Lifestyle has offices in New York and London, and his company flies all over the world conjuring his two favourite words, ‘chic’ and ‘elegance’,
