Showcasing Africa ’s riches

Her clients include Sarah Jessica Parker and Rosamund Pike; her designs have been tweeted from Paris and London Fashion Weeks, and her ‘Refuge’ ring made R150 000 for rhino conservation at a Christie’s charity auction.

Small wonder the fashion world is abuzz with ‘Goss-ip’! In 10 years, Kirsten Goss’s jewellery business has become a design house of note – she has a store in London and holds exclusive sales at posh hotels in New York and Hong Kong.

Yet she chooses to keep her business roots here; the production studio, now with six goldsmiths, is still in her hometown of Durban.

The sensibility behind Goss’s work is ‘the essence of art and craft’, a combination of the artisanal and academic.

‘I love that we’re on the international stage but keep what we do South African.’ Goss’s collections combine her mother’s Scandinavian heritage with her own roots – an unpredictable blend of clean lines with the robust forms, textures and colours of Africa.

Her ‘Lily Pad’ ring was judged The Most Beautiful Object of 2012 at the Design Indaba, and Goss was Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2011 SA Business Awards in London.

Next up is a ‘slightly irreverent luxury brand’ and another overseas store… Big Apple, here comes another South African!
