100 arrested over Kenya miniskirt attack

2014-11-18 22:11

Kenyan police arrested up to 100 men in Nairobi for apparently attacking a woman for wearing “indecent clothes”, a week after another young woman was stripped by a mob in the city for wearing a miniskirt.

The attack happened only hours after hundreds marched through the streets of the capital to protest at the first assault, a video of which went viral on social networks.

The victim of the latest incident had to be taken to hospital after she was beaten and had her clothes ripped off at a bus stop in the Kayole shantytown in the northeast of the city today.

Most of those arrested are thought to be minibus drivers.

Police chief Nicholas Kamwende said: “The investigation is going on with the interrogation of the suspects to determine those involved. We will not allow this to continue happening.”

Women have been attacked and stripped in the past for wearing trousers in neighbouring Uganda.

Similar attacks have also been reported in Malawi.
