2011-01-19 11:57

“Sugarcane” serial killer Thozamile Taki was handed 13 life sentences and 208 years in prison by the Durban High Court today.

Judge King Ndlovu handed him 13 life sentences – for each of the 13 women he killed – plus a further 208 years – 16 years for the armed robbery of each woman.

Ndlovu commended the excellent work done by the police’s investigating team and also praised the cellphone experts who gave evidence.

The sentence was welcomed with jubilation from the public gallery.

Family members of the victims cried and sang. Others hugged state advocate Noxolo Tokwana and praised her work.

Taki was found guilty on December 23.
