15-year-old serial rape accused in court

A teenager accused of raping an eight-year-old girl and gouging out her left eye will appear in the Mtunzini Magistrate’s Court.

The 15-year-old, who will be in court today, was released into the custody of his parents during his last appearance in the Gingindlovu Periodical Court.

Last month, the girl was dragged into a sugar?cane field near her home, where she was assaulted and raped. She had been walking home from school at the time. Her attacker bit her neck.

The youth’s grandmother alerted the police when people accused him of the crime.

She told the Witness newspaper she had reprimanded him when he was accused of raping another girl the same day.

“We did not reprimand him the second time, because we feared he would run away like he did when the first [victim’s] family came to our house,” she said.

The girl was treated at the Ngwelezane Hospital.
