3 arrested for Midrand taxi shoot-out

2014-10-10 08:37

Three men have been arrested after two women were caught in the crossfire of a shooting allegedly by taxi bosses in Midrand.

One woman died and the other was rushed to hospital when they drove past a shoot-out that police suspect involved rival taxi owners.

“The men are aged between 50 and 65, and will appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on Monday,” said Gauteng police Captain Augustinah Selepe today.

“They will face charges of murder and attempted murder. At this stage we can’t confirm if they are taxi owners.”

The car was passed the corner of the K101 and Le Roux roads in Midrand when the shoot-out was in progress.

The 39-year-old passenger in the car was hit in the head by a stray bullet and the driver was hit in the right arm.

The passenger died at the scene and the driver was taken to hospital.

“A group of taxi owners in their private vehicles were shooting at each other. We have not confirmed this. We suspect it,” Selepe said at the time.

The groups drove away after the incident.
