Three people have appeared in the Kabokweni Magistrates’ Court for allegedly abducting and raping two school pupils, Mpumalanga police have said.

They appeared in court yesterday and were each charged with two counts of rape and kidnapping, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said today.

The three would remain in custody until their next court appearance on July 2.

A fourth person who was arrested on Sunday was expected to appear in court in connection with the same crime later today.

The four, aged between 24 and 29, were arrested between Friday and Sunday in Thekwane South outside Nelspruit. They allegedly kidnapped and raped two pupils from Hilary High School in Pienaar.

“The two pupils, aged 20 and 21, were allegedly abducted on their way from school on Thursday, May 22. They were kidnapped and raped by the suspects at gunpoint,” Mohlala said.

The pupils were released the same day and reported the crime to the police.
