Three people were killed and 36 others injured in a collision between a bus and a car in Mthatha, Eastern Cape.

“Police spotted the driver of a Mercedes Benz driving recklessly around town. They chased him and he went through an intersection and hit the City to City bus,” said Lieutenant Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela.

“The incident happened at 1am on Monday morning. The bus overturned and crashed into a building.”

The driver of the bus, a passenger, and a 4 week-old-baby were killed.

The injured were taken to Mthatha general hospital.

The driver of the car is under police guard at hospital and will face charges of reckless driving, Fatyela said.

He said the bus was on its way to Durban and most of the passengers were from Port Elizabeth.
