50 feared trapped after mall roof collapses

About 50 people are feared trapped under rubble after the roof of a shopping mall collapsed in Tongaat, north of Durban, on Tuesday, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said details were sketchy.

“Fifty people might be trapped within the collapsed building.”

eThekwini fire department chief Mark te Water confirmed a building had collapsed in the area.

Workmen were trapped and his department had dispatched units to the scene, Te Water said.
