Sixty thousand ANC supporters are expected to attend the party’s 99th anniversary celebrations in Polokwane this weekend.

About 1 300 buses and 777 minibuses will ferry the ruling party’s supporters to Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane, where President Jacob Zuma will deliver the yearly statement of the party’s national executive.

The statement gives an indication of the ANC’s priorities for the year ahead, and informs the state-of-the-nation address.

This is the second time the ruling party will hold a major meeting in the city since its 2007 elective conference, in which Zuma defeated former leader Thabo Mbeki in the race for the party’s presidency.

ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe says more than 500 police officers will provide security at the main rally on Saturday.

Those who are coming to it for its entertainment programme will not be disappointed.Among the artists and DJs who will be performing are Big Nuz, Professor, Chomee, DJ Cameroon, DJ Cappuccino, Thebe and Winnie Khumalo.
