ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe has called for the release of the Public Protector’s report about the security upgrades to President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla homestead.

Mantashe made this call at a press conference at Luthuli House this afternoon, following a three-day meeting of ANC officials, including President Jacob Zuma.

He said the ANC, “and we are sure society as a whole”, wants clarity from Public Protector Thuli Madonsela about Zuma’s role in the upgrades.

He said the officials didn’t pose these questions to Zuma at their recent meeting, because he wasn’t the one doing the investigation.

The questions are:

1. Did Zuma request any security upgrades to his homestead?

2. Did Zuma spend more than R200 million of state money on his homestead?

3. Did Zuma request that a swimming pool and a kraal be built and that his wife’s tuck shop be moved from its original position?

4. Did Zuma request that bulletproof windows be put on particular windows and did he ask for the building of a waiting room at his homestead?

5. If not, who made those decisions, and who is accountable?

6. What was built on state land, and who made this decision? Was it Zuma?

7. How much was spent on the security upgrade at Zuma’s homestead and how does this compare with expenditure on the homes of other presidents?
