At least 75 suspected drug dealers in Khutsong in the West Rand have been arrested in six days, police minister Nathi Mthethwa has said. “I am happy to report before you that since Monday till today [Sunday], 75 suspects have been arrested and are being taken through the criminal justice system,” he said in a statement yesterday. Mthethwa made the announcement during a community participation meeting. The gathering was a result of recent mob justice incidents in the township in which six people were attacked and killed for allegedly being involved in gangs. He appealed to the community to work with police to root out crime, even within the SA police service. He said police had been consistent in their resolve to ensure that any police officer who is involved in criminality faces the full might of the law. “In fact, we want to inform you that from March to November this year, in this very cluster of Khutsong, 11 police officers have been dismissed from the SAPS for various acts of criminality,” he said. He promised to look into the issues raised by the residents.
