9/11 still stirs emotion a decade later – poll

2011-09-07 12:36

Washington – The significance of September 11 has not waned for many Americans, according to a poll.

The survey by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that more Americans now say September 11 had an impact on their lives than five years ago – 57% now compared with 50% in 2006.

As the 10th anniversary approaches, the horror that unfolded in New York, Washington and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, still evokes a stir of emotions – from anger at the loss of so many innocent lives, to the pride of the heroes who emerged on hijacked planes, to the shock of watching fallen skyscrapers and a shattered Pentagon.

Lisa Schmidt of Vancouver, Washington state, says she thinks about 9/11 “just about every day” and almost every time she sees a plane.
