ANC wants ‘three-thirds’ in 2014 – Jacob Zuma

2013-07-26 16:25

The ANC wants three-thirds of the vote, not two-thirds, President Jacob Zuma told ANC faithfuls in Durban today.

Addressing ANC supporters at a rally at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban’s largest township, Umlazi, Zuma said ANC volunteers from every party and alliance structure needed to assist in the campaign.

The ANC’s critics, he said, were big on criticism but had never delivered anything themselves.

“There is a lot of noise. People are talking about delivery, delivery. What have they done since 1994? It is the ANC, not them that has delivered,’’ he said.

Zuma said ANC members need to make sure that their siblings, their children who were eligible to vote and their elders all registered and voted ANC.

“We don’t want two-thirds. We want three-thirds,’’ Zuma said to a roar of applause.

Zuma said since 1994 the ANC had scrapped apartheid laws, had delivered equal education, houses, and water and electricity to places that had been ignored under the previous regime.

“Now in Nongoma the people have electricity. That is delivery,’’ he said.

Earlier, he addressed a small rally at Folweni, south of Durban, and visited families from the area who are destitute. An earlier plan to visit three families was condensed into a single house visit.

Zuma is in KwaZulu-Natal for a day-long visit aimed at mobilising ANC supporters ahead of the formal election campaign. The visit will end tonight at Stanger on the north coast, where he will address minority communities.
