The ANC has told struggle stalwart Pallo Jordan he is free to resign from Parliament and the ANC’s national executive committee, but not from the ANC itself.

ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe said that Jordan, with his wealth of experience, still had a role to play in the ANC.

Mantashe was addressing the media at Luthuli House today following the ANC’s weekend NEC meeting.

“The NEC commended comrade Pallo Jordan’s principled and ethical position to resign from Parliament, the NEC and the ANC following media reports that he did not hold a PhD.

“His resignations from Parliament and the NEC have been accepted, but the NEC declined to accept his resignation as a member of the ANC as we have confidence that he still has a role to play in the movement,” Mantashe said.

Jordan was exposed as never having obtained a PhD despite having claimed so for many years. He also cited a PhD as among his qualifications on his curriculum vitae.
