ANCYL hosts Cuban delegation

2010-01-06 11:25

The ANC Youth League is hosting a delegation from the Young

Communist League of Cuba until January 20.

The league said the visit by the Cuban delegation, including four

members of the UJC (Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas) Central Committee, will help

consolidate programmatic relations between the ANCYL and UJC.

The delegation will participate in ANCYL programmes, particularly

the back-to-school campaign and the ruling party’s January 8 rally to celebrate

its 98th anniversary.

The delegation would also conduct lectures across the country about

the Cuban revolution.

It would also campaign for the release of the Cuban five, the

league said.

Five Cuban intelligence officers, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, Ramón

Labañino Salazar, Rene González Sehwerert, Antonio Guerrero Rodríguez and

Fernando González Llort, were arrested in 1998 on 26 counts of violating the

federal laws of the US.

One of the delegates was the daughter of one of the men serving a

long prison sentence in the US.
