#ANCpolicy: State of play in the provinces – Eastern Cape

2012-06-26 06:53

The Eastern Cape is the second largest province and, if it were united, would be one of the strongest voices at the conference.

But it is not, with divisions between the camps supporting President Jacob Zuma versus those wanting change in leadership almost splitting the province in two.

Some in the province have questioned the use of state money to fund all of President Jacob Zuma’s wives, but this issue is unlikely to make it to the policy conference.

The province wants to see an amendment of the Constitution to speed up land reform and it rejects the willing-seller-willing-buyer principle.

It has also questioned the concept of the “second transition”.
