#ANCpolicy: State of play in the provinces – Free State

2012-06-26 08:10

The Free State made it in the nick of time to attend the national policy conference when it wrapped up its provincial conference this past weekend in Parys.

Despite the provincial congress strongly backing Jacob Zuma for a second term as ANC president and ensuring policy positions that favour him are adopted as resolutions, the Free State goes to the policy conference marred by deep divisions.

It was a conference of a faction, according to former provincial executive committee members and their supporters who boycotted the gathering.

But incumbent President Jacob Zuma on Sunday gave the conference a thumbs up. The province stands firm behind the proposed second transition.

The proposed nationalisation of mines and expropriation of land without compensation, as being pushed by the ANC Youth League, will not get favour from this province.

At the provincial conference re-elected chairperson Ace Magashule said he “cannot distance” himself from “those documents, even if you talk about the second transition”.
