ASA ad hoc committee to run sport

2014-02-24 16:29

Athletics South Africa (ASA) has appointed a seven-member ad hoc committee to run the sport for the next three months.

The committee will be chaired by Daan du Toit. It also includes Colleen McNally, Sam Mlangeni, Mike Fraser, Paul van der Merwe, Brandon du Plessis and George Lamb.

The representative of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), Cheikh Thiare, confirmed that elections for a new executive would be held on May 24.

“The seven members of the ad hoc committee have been nominated by the whole South African athletics family,” Thiare said.

The election process ahead of the special general meeting in May will be monitored by the global governing body.

After meeting with both factions at the weekend, Thiare found that the sport had come to a standstill due to long-running conflict between administrators.

He recommended that an ad hoc committee be elected to take the sport forward.
