ATM bomber caught on CCTV

New evidence has been obtained in the hunt for an ATM bombing syndicate operating in Gauteng, police said today.

“A CCTV camera has picked up footage of the face of one of the gang members,” said Brigadier Neville Malila.

The footage was obtained at an Engen garage in Randburg on October 3 during an ATM bombing, he said.

Police were unsure about the identity of the man but were hoping a member of the public would come forward with more information.

The man’s face was published in newspapers and on websites today in the hope that someone would recognise him.

“We are appealing to the public to come forward with any information,” said Malila.

Police have linked the group to eight robberies in areas such as Dobsonville, Sophiatown, Eldorado Park, Thokoza, Brackendowns, Florida and Booysens.

The syndicate usually operates with between eight and 10 members.

The group is known to be heavily armed, usually with assault rifles and handguns.
