Ailing Nigerian president meets guest

The chief imam of Nigeria’s national mosque says he and three other

religious leaders met briefly with the West African nation’s ill and long absent

Imam Ustaz Musa Mohammed tells The Associated Press that he and

three other men met with President Umaru Yar’Adua briefly at the presidential

palace last night.

Mohammed says Yar’Adua did not stand for the five-minute

visit, though the president could pray aloud and raise his hands when

“communicating with Allah.”

Yar’Adua, who has long suffered from kidney ailments, hasn’t been

seen publicly since he left for a Saudi Arabian hospital in late November.

The religious visit also comes as Acting President Goodluck

Jonathan asserts more power in the oil-rich nation.
