All the weekend PSL action

2013-03-29 14:59

After a week’s break because of Fifa international fixtures, the Absa Premiership resumes this evening with two matches.

Inconsistent Moroka Swallows host Free State Stars at Dobsonville Stadium with both teams looking to get maximum points to consolidate their league positions. The game kicks off at 6pm.

Under Zeca Marques, Swallows have not been able to reach the same heights they did under Gordon Igesund when they missed out on the league title by a mere two points.

Recently, loss of form and injuries have left them in 10th spot. Stars, on the other hand, have been consistent in the top eight and credit should go to Steve Komphela, who, despite losing some key players early in the season, has managed to keep them intact.

Stars lost top striker Edward Manqele to Mamelodi Sundowns while Mpho Makola joined Orlando Pirates.

In Cape Town, relegation-threatened Ajax Cape Town host another struggling side, AmaZulu, at Cape Town Stadium at 8pm.

With only five points separating the teams, they are both in dire need of goals if they are to avoid the drop to the National First Division next season.

Tomorrow, title contenders Pirates host University of Pretoria at the FNB Stadium after making way for a church service as their home ground, Orlando Stadium.

Pirates will be looking to add pressure on Kaizer Chiefs, who are five points clear at the top.

Earlier in the day, Platinum Stars will be looking to make it a clean sweep against Sundowns this season.

Without a doubt, the biggest game of the weekend will be in Bloemfontein where Celtic welcome Chiefs on Sunday afternoon.
