Alleged child rapist arrested

A man accused of raping a 10-year-old girl has been arrested in Rietvallei, near Kagiso, the West Rand, according to Gauteng police.

Police awoke the 46-year-old and arrested him at his home on suspicion of the crime at 1.50am yesterday, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said in a statement.

The child had been playing in her aunt’s yard on Saturday afternoon when the man asked her to buy him beer from a spaza shop.

“The suspect got closer to the little girl trying to convince her, but when she continued to refuse, the suspect grabbed and dragged her by hand to the back of the shack in the same yard,” he said.

The man then told her to lie down and promised her a R5 coin. He undressed her and raped her before giving her the money.

The child told her mother what had happened and the matter was reported to the police.

The man would appear soon in the Kagiso Magistrates Court.
