Alleged rapists arrested

2011-09-21 07:48

Four men accused of separate rapes were arrested in Soweto today, Joburg police said.

“Police raided [various venues] in the early hours of this morning and managed to catch four suspects that have been on the run for some time,” said Warrant Officer Kay Makubela.

One of those arrested was a 17-year-old youth who police had been looking for since June, after he allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl.

A 39-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl in Mapetla, Soweto, in July.

The two other men arrested had been on the run since August.

The one (20) was accused of raping an 18-year-old girl while the other (21) was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in Chiawelo in Soweto.

All four men would appear in the Protea Magistrates Court tomorrow, said Makubela.
