Angola’s stars set to rock Jozi

Joburgers are in for a treat this Friday when Angola’s hottest music stars head to local shores for a one-night performance.

Angola’s superstars will take the stage before their soccer team’s kick-off in the Afcon tournament on Saturday to serenade locals with kizomba, guetto zouk, hip-hop and semba, ahead of their album release.

Sony Music Entertainment Africa is set to release the Team De Sonho (dream team in Portuguese) compilation featuring artists such as Anselmo Ralph, Big Nelo, Zona 5, Yuri da Cunha, DannyL and Cage One next month, under an exclusive licence from Angolan label LS Republicano.

The 18-track audio compilation, Team De Sonho, represents the first of several releases from the LS Republicano stable, with Anselmo Ralph’s Live CD/DVD combo to follow later in the year. Both releases will be available worldwide as of February.

Sony Music SA’s senior label manager Maria Hadjidimitriadis says the musicians decided to perform here in support of their national soccer team and to get a feel for performing in front of a South African audience.

“It’s also part of their international tour before their album release next month. They’ll be heading off to Mozambique for the next stop on Saturday.

“We also wanted to take the opportunity to meet with the artists since it’s two record labels coming together for this project,” she said.

The Angolan soccer team will play against Morocco at 9pm on Saturday at the National FNB Stadium in Soweto. Their second match will be against Bafana Bafana on Wednesday, January 23, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium at 5pm.

Angola hosted the 2010 edition of the tournament.

Anselmo Ralph will be performing with Big Nelo, C4 Pedro, JD, Nagrelha, Cage One, Daniel Nascimento, Yuri da Cunha, and Zona 5, along with special guest Lizah James and Dj Jeff at The Venue, Melrose Arch, from 7pm on Friday.
