Woolworths has revealed its must-have essentials for spring and summer. They’re cool, stylish and covered in prints, writes Gugulethu Mhlungu

Animal and geometric prints are hot items for the warmer months, according to Woolworths. Although prints can be?a little intimidating if you like solid colours, former design star David West in the Woolworths trends and buying department gives you the lowdown on what you need to pull off fashionable with ease

1. The animal print strappy top

The woven stripey cami is one of this season’s hottest basic items. The new thing about it is that it’s not tight and fitted, but worn loose and easy in drapey woven fabric. The top can be worn under all the new sheer tops and kimono shackets, just like your white or black strappy top.

Dubbed the fashion-jogger pants, the longs are lightweight woven fabric, and are given a sporty treatment with the black stripe. In a graphic black-and-white print, it is easily worn with almost anything else.

West says the jumpsuit is a summer all-in-one solution. It can be worn at the beach or worn out by simply changing shoes and adding a scarf or jacket. They look best in geometric printed designs and animal print this season.

Woolworths says you can expect to find the zebra print in tees, skirts and dresses this summer because zebra print is the hot new animal print. This skirt is a great, more formal piece that’s still trendy.

The kimono shacket is an unstructured jacket that is perfect for layering and covering up swimwear or a strappy top. It’s made from lightweight woven fabric and can also be worn over something a little more embellished for a smarter look.

The cropped tee is a core item for summer and this version comes in all the key prints, like zebra and bold, tribal-inspired print blocked designs, contrast piping details and the like. It is light and easy to wear, and is “the new T-shirt”.
