A 19-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of a student in Woodstock, Cape Town.

Police Sergeant Hilton Malila said the man had allegedly stabbed a business management student at the University of South Africa, identified by Die Burger as Dane van Zyl, several times yesterday.

Malila said: “The arrest follows an intense investigation into the case. Information received from the public led police to a nearby house in Cornwall street where the suspect was arrested as he tried to flee from the police.”

He was due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Monday on a charge of murder and housebreaking.

Van Zyl was taken to the Chris Barnard Memorial Hospital, but died shortly after arrival.

Malila said the killer got away with a laptop and a Playstation.

According to media reports , this was the second murder in Woodstock in three days.

A 25-year-old unidentified man was stabbed to death in Albert Road on Tuesday night.
