Arrest warrants out for ex-schoolboys

2010-12-14 07:10

Warrants of arrests have been issued for two young men and former pupils of Helpmekaar College who stand accused of assaulting a boy at the Johannesburg school.

The Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court issued the warrants for Leon Venter and Bernard van Heerden, both aged 20, after they failed to appear in court yesterday, Beeld reported.

The pair was supposed to have appeared alongside Reynard Swartz (19), but neither of them showed up.

Swartz, Venter and Van Heerden face a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, relating to an incident at the school on October 14 2008.

The three allegedly forced a boy, who was then 15-years-old, into a dustbin and hit him repeatedly over the head with the dustbin’s lid, before turning it over with the boy inside.

A fourth accused, Joseph Wilkinson, was acquitted in July due to a lack of evidence against him.
