Attempted murder docket opened after Siyabonga Sangweni’s uncle is shot

2013-12-27 16:05

The uncle of Orlando Pirates defender Siyabonga Sangweni was shot and wounded near KwaMbonambi today, KwaZulu-Natal police have said.

“It was [Sangweni’s] uncle, not his dad,” commander at the local police station Colonel Brenda Mgenge said.

He was taken to a nearby hospital. An attempted murder docket was opened, she said.

Earlier, Orlando Pirates administrator Floyd Mbele said Siyabonga’s dad had been shot, apparently by a family member.

“It was not Siyabonga,” Mbele said.

Siyabonga (31) has two brothers who play for clubs in the Premier Soccer League. Thamsanqa Sangweni (24) plays for Mamelodi Sundowns, and Mandla Sangweni (26) is goalkeeper for AmaZulu.
