Aussies opt to field

Nagpur – Australia won the toss and will bowl first against New Zealand in today’s Group A match at the World Cup.

With his side looking to extend its World Cup-record unbeaten streak to 31 matches, Aussie captain Ricky Ponting chose to try take advantage of early morning cloud cover following overnight rain in Nagpur.

He will lead a side unchanged from its comfortable opening win over Zimbabwe.

After routing Kenya by 10 wickets, New Zealand made one change to face the defending champions.

Captain Daniel Vettori said the day before the match that he expected it to be a high-scoring encounter, so the Black Caps have bolstered their its batting by bringing in Jamie How to replace allrounder Jacob Oram.

Both teams will wear black armbands and observe a minute’s silence following this week’s deadly earthquake in Christchurch.
