Baby Boks wish Bafana well in New Zealand

The SA Junior Springboks, who are in Auckland, New Zealand, for the IRB Junior World Championship, have sent Bafana Bafana good wishes ahead of their encounter against the New Zealand All Whites tomorrow.

The South African senior men’s national team tackles their New Zealand counterparts at the Mt Smart Stadium tomorrow at 7.30pm (9.30am South African time) in an international friendly.

Speaking from their hotel – which they incidentally share with the New Zealand soccer team – Bok Under-20 coach Dawie Theron said: “It is always nice to have fellow South Africans at the same time in a foreign country.

“You always feel that patriotism. We support them [Bafana Bafana] and wish them well.”

Baby Bok Nqobisizwe Mxoli also wished Bafana well. “We wish them the best and I hope they are coming here with the same mentality as we are … that of winning.”

The Baby Boks arrived in Auckland on Tuesday evening and had their first training session this morning after a day’s rest.

Theron said it was important to give the players some time to rest before training.

“Their bodies are still adjusting to the time difference and the weather conditions,” he said.

The team that won the trophy on home soil under Theron in 2012 faces Scotland at the QBE Stadium in Auckland in their opening Group C match on Monday before tackling the hosts, New Zealand, on June 6 and then closing off their Group stages match against Samoa on June 10.
