Baby abducted at home affairs

2012-01-17 14:23

A search has been launched for a one-month-old baby boy and a woman who apparently abducted him from the Ladysmith home affairs office.

The woman approached Baby Mlondi Thwala’s mother on Monday, said Captain Thulani Zwane.

She claimed the municipality had commissioned her to offer support to babies under the age of three months.

The woman had previously asked the Colenso community about families with babies in this age group.

Zwane said the woman persuaded the mother to travel with her to the home affairs office where she promised to help with an application for a grant for the baby.

At the office, the woman told the mother she would take the baby to get food. She did not return. The mother became worried and searched the area, but the woman and baby were nowhere to be found.

Zwane said the child was wearing a yellow vest with a matching top over it, a lime green waterproof and powder blue pants.

The woman was of medium build with a fair complexion and short hair. She was wearing a yellow T-shirt with the word ‘identity’ printed on it and a navy denim skirt.

Zwane appealed to the public to report sightings of the woman or baby to the police.
