Baby dies in bucket of boiling water

A one-year-old baby girl died when she fell into a bucket of

boiling water at Jabulani, Soweto.

The police’s Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said the baby’s elder

sister filled a 20l bucket

with boiling water and went into another room at about 8.45pm yesterday.

“When their father came into the kitchen a few minutes later, he

found the baby in the bucket. The child was rushed to hospital but died on


Makhubele said police opened an inquest docket.

“If the investigations show that somebody was negligent, the

charges would be changed to culpable homicide and whoever is responsible would

be arrested.”
