Baby disappears from home

2011-02-16 13:08

A seven-month-old baby boy disappeared from his home in Macassar when his mother left him to go to the shop, Western Cape police said today.

The baby boy, who was wearing navy blue shorts and a light blue T-shirt with small bears on the front, went missing about 8.15pm last night from his mother’s home in Ring Avenue, Macassar.

His mother (32) told police that she put the baby to bed at 8pm in the same room as his 7-year-old sister, said Captain Anneke van der Vyver.

The mother then decided to go to a nearby shop, said Van der Vyver, and closed all the doors and the gate leading to the premises.

When she returned, she found the gate and doors open and her daughter still asleep.

Van der Vyver said that the mother immediately investigated the surrounding area, asking neighbours if they had seen anything, to no avail.

Police immediately began the investigation and conducted an extensive search through the night, said Van der Vyver.

The baby boy has long curly hair, weighs 7 kg and is 63cm tall, with a light birthmark on the right side of his chest.

Anyone with information is requested to contact the investigating officer, Captain Kamalie at Khayelitsha on 082?334?8362 or during office hours on 021 918 3143.
