It was a bad day for Team SA at the IAAF World Championships with none of the country’s three representatives progressing in their track and field events this morning.

Javelin thrower Robert Oosthuizen, 200m runner Justine Palframan and shot putter Orazio Cremona crashed out in the qualifying rounds.

Oosthuizen finished second from last in both his group and the overall rankings with a distance of 74.36m.

He posted 70.99m in his only other effort after his final attempt was red flagged.

Palframan came fifth in a time of 23.64s in the heat that was won by reigning world champion and Olympic gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica.

Palframan’s mark placed her at 35th spot out of the 48 that finished the race.

Cremona posted 19.42m in his group for seventh place.

He finished 15th after he recorded 19.29m and 19.23m in his other attempts and subsequently missed out on a final berth by 34cm.

Team SA will return to action tomorrow with Anaso Jobodwana lining up in the 200m heats.

He is placed in heat 2, which takes off at 8.42am.

On the same day, Khotso Mokoena (long jump at 5.30pm) and Elroy Gelant (5 000m at 6.45pm) will bid for medals in the final of their respective disciplines, while Johan Cronje will line up in the 1 500m semifinals at 5.05pm.

Sunette Viljoen will be involved in the javelin throw qualification round in Group B from 8.55am.
