Bafana Bafana dropped four places to 60th in the latest Fifa world rankings released today.

They also slipped one position to 10th in the ratings among African nations.

In their only game since the rankings were last updated, South Africa beat minnows Lesotho 2-0 in a friendly international in Maseru last week.

Bafana play their next match, a World Cup qualifier, against Central African Republic (CAR) at a neutral venue in Yaounde, Cameroon, on Saturday, before they square up against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa next week.

The CAR climbed five spots to 59th in the latest rankings – one ahead of Bafana – while Ethiopia rose one position to 106th.

World champions Spain remained top of the global list, while Ivory Coast, 13th in the world, retained number one spot in the African rankings.

Five-time World Cup winners Brazil dropped to a historic low of 22nd, only one year before hosting the showpiece tournament.

Brazil fell three places this month as it continues to play only friendlies, including a 2-2 draw against England on Sunday. Friendlies score less than competitive matches in Fifa’s calculations, which have ranked teams since 1993 across a four-year results cycle.

Brazil can make up ground when it hosts the eight-nation Confederations Cup warm-up event this month. It plays eighth-placed Italy, Mexico (17th) and Japan (32nd).
