Bafana eye Finland and China as their next opponents

2010-03-24 11:16

Bafana Bafana could play Stuart Baxter’s Finland and China during their training camp in Germany next month.

This was revealed by coach Carlos Parreira at Bafana’s training camp in Porto Feliz outside Sao Paulo yesterday.

Bafana could also play Argentina at Soccer City in May if the South African Football Association (Safa) agrees on terms with the Diego Maradona-led side.

Parreira wants to use the Argentina match as a dress rehearsal for the opening clash of the World Cup against Mexico at Soccer City to prepare the team to play in front of a packed stadium so that they are not taken by surprise in the opening match on June 11.

But it looks as if the discussions between the two associations have stalled over an appearance fee believed to be around $1,5 million (about R10 million).

Parreira said bringing in the likes of Lionel Messi would mean more revenue and it should not be a problem to give Argentina what they were asking.

But for now Parreira is focusing on preparing the team for the tough task ahead as he takes them through their paces in Brazil.

Bafana are scheduled to play against Sao Paulo’s Ponte Petra tomorrow afternoon and will play Desportivo Brasil on Saturday before flying out to Paraguay next week.

They have already played six training matches – winning four and drawing two.
