Bafana Bafana striker Katlego Mphela had been arrested on a charge of drunken driving in Sandton, north of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said today.

“Mr Mphela was arrested and released on bail of R1 000,” said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

He said the striker, known as “Killer” and who scored Bafana Bafana’s only goal in their win against Egypt this weekend, was arrested on Bryanston Road around 5am yesterday.

“He was stopped during a routine patrol and when the police spoke to him, they realised he didn’t look sober,” said Dlamini.

His next court appearance in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court was scheduled for October 4.
