Bafana to compete in Cosafa Cup

2013-05-13 16:02

Bafana Bafana will take part in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup tournament in Zambia in July, the SA Football Association (Safa) has confirmed.

Safa CEO Dennis Mumble said the governing body had held successul talks with the Premier Soccer League in order for local players to be released from their clubs for the tournament.

“We will have a competitive team going to Lusaka,” Mumble said today.

“The meeting went well and we were able to find each other and there were firm commitments.

“Obviously [club] coaches would like to take their players to camp in the off-season, but it’s also important we honour our commitment to Cosafa and we are hopeful we will have a strong team going to Zambia.”

South Africa have been drawn to face the winner of Group A in the competition, made up of Tanzania, Namibia, Mauritius and Seychelles.
