Bafana up 10 spots in Fifa rankings

2014-10-23 12:07

Following their unbeaten run in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Bafana Bafana have risen 10 places in the latest Fifa rankings.

The national side are now ranked 57th in the world following a successful start under the guidance of Shakes Mashaba.

Bafana, who look on course to qualify for Afcon 2015, are ranked as the 12th best side on the continent.

South Africa next face Group A opponents Sudan at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on November 15.

A win against Sudan will guarantee Bafana Bafana a place at the African showpiece.

Meanwhile, World Cup winners Germany stay on top of the world football rankings despite making a poor start to their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

Though Joachim Löw’s team have only one win in three Euro qualifiers, they remain ahead of Argentina and Colombia in an unchanged top three.

In the top 10, Belgium leap neighbours Netherlands into fourth, France move up two spots to seventh and Portugal gain two places to ninth.

Uruguay (down one place) and Spain (down two places) both slip but remain in the top 10 while Switzerland have dropped to 12th.

Fifa rankings:

1. Germany

2. Argentina

3. Colombia

4. Belgium

5. Netherlands

6. Brazil

7. France

8. Uruguay

9. Portugal

10. Spain
