Bafana wary of Mogorosi threat in Botswana clash

2013-09-02 16:16

Bafana Bafana defender Thabo Nthethe believes his Bloemfontein Celtic team-mate Joel Mogorosi could be a threat when they clash against Botswana on Saturday.

Bafana will host the Zebras in a crucial 2014 Soccer World Cup Group A qualifier at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

It is a must-win situation for Gordon Igesund’s charges in order to keep their dream for a place in next year’s global show piece alive.

Although Bafana need a win at all costs, victory will not be a formality as Botswana also stand a chance of progressing to the next round of qualification – and Nthethe is aware of their attacking style.

“I’ve watched Botswana play before. I know they are going to come at us because if I’m not mistaken, they also have a slight chance of going through. They won’t let us go through just like that,” Nthethe told the Cape Times.

Nthethe (28) also warned South Africans of the Celtic’s Botswana goal-poacher, Mogorosi.

“He knows our players in the PSL and he can be a threat.”

“We just have to make sure to take advantage of playing at home.”

Mogorosi has already bagged two goals for Celtic this season and he will be looking to transform his scoring form to his national team.

Victory for either Bafana or Botswana will not guarantee their progress to the qualification playoffs as both sides will have to rely on Central African Republic (CAR) beating or drawing with group leaders Ethiopia. That match will take place in a neutral venue due to the political instabilities in CAR.

Both Group A games are scheduled to kick off at 3:30pm.
