Ball in Mosimane’s court

2010-07-01 16:05

Pitso Mosimane will have to prove that he deserves the Bafana

Bafana coaching job.

This was revealed in a hastily arranged press briefing today by

South African Football Association (Safa) president Kirsten Nematandani.

Nematandani said although Safa’s national executive committee has

recommended Mosimane as its preferred candidate for the job, it has referred the

matter to the technical committee.

Mosimane would be given the opportunity to state his case before

the committee on his vision for the team leading up to the 2012 Africa Cup of

Nations and 2014 Fifa World Cup.

Nematandani said it should be a matter of days before the final

decision is taken: “It is not a foregone conclusion that he will get the job as

the committee needs to satisfy itself that he is the right man for the job. It

is true that he was an understudy to Carlos Parreira but we still need to get

his own vision for the national team.”

The members of the technical committee include Jomo Sono, Ted

Dumitru, Harold “Jazzy Queen” Legodi, Simon Ngomane, Serame Letsoaka, Michael

Leese, Fanyana Sibanyoni and Andile Ndengezi.

After being knocked out of the World Cup in the first round, Bafana

will be back in action on August 11 in a friendly game before playing Niger in

September in their opening Nations Cup qualifier.

They will also play Sierra Leone and Egypt in their group for the

2012 event, which takes place in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
