Battle of the drop tops – Mini Roadster cabriolet

2012-04-05 08:16

The Roadster is available with a 1.6F engine in the entry-level non-turbo Cooper model, the turbo-charged Cooper S and the big daddy, supercharged John Cooper Works model.

»It’s still traditional Mini in terms of styling, with the big retro speedometer taking up the majority of the console.

»The automatic spoiler that raises up when you’re at a certain speed makes the car look even sportier.

» There’s a secret door behind the seats that allows boot access and seat warmers keep you toasty on colder days.

» Mini Connect allows you to access search engine Google when you’re lost and connect to Facebook and Twitter when the car is not in motion.

» The roof requires some manual labour. You need to pull over and get out, press a button to release the roof and pull it. Then, you have to clip it in once you’re back inside.

» While it looks like another Mini, it’s lost some of its looks in the front end. Which one would I choose? The Roadster will do the trick when I want some serious fun driving, especially in the supercharged model. But if it comes down to the looks and the cruise mobile, I’d go for the Golf.
