The stars at the Sansui Summer Cup and the Channel O Music Awards kept fashion police Lesley Mofokeng, Sdu Gerasch and Paledi Segapo busy. Whose cup ran dry and who was perfectly in step with the beat?

Bonang Matheba at the Channel O Music Video Awards 2013. Pictures: Lucky Nxumalo/City Press

Bonang Matheba

Sdu: She looks amazing. Cleopatra would have been proud of her.

Lesley: I have no words to describe the fierceness of this dress and the accessories?...?she leads the pack.

Paledi: The belle of the ball, Bonang is a fashion goddess.

Nigerian Derele Edun at the Channel O Music Video Awards 2013

Derele Edun

Sdu: Atrocious beyond words?…?next.

Lesley: This attention seeker is the reason why clowns are scary.

Paledi: I know that fashion makes people nervous and insecure, but there is nothing fashionable here. It’s a disaster.

Lerato Kganyago at the Channel O Music Video Awards 2013

Lerato Kganyago

Sdu: Stunning dress, lovely pastel-colour nail polish, but something is not adding up?…?she looks hungry.

Lesley: She looks great in virginal white, but the dress is as characterless as milk.

Paledi: I love effortless beauty. A true red carpet queen has a fashion identity and does not have to try too hard. Gold star for Lerato. She looks refined and chic de luxe.

Bridget Masinga at the Channel O Music Video Awards 2013

Bridget Masinga-Khati

Sdu: Amazing body sadly covered in rags. Would have worked if Bridget had tied her hair back. The whole outfit makes her body frame look inappropriate.

Lesley: Love this on Bridget. Pity she didn’t go easy with the knots sprouting all over her shoulders.

Paledi: Très chic, perfect cut, amazing colour. I wish that lovely hair was held in a bun or lifted because it sabotages the detail around the shoulder line.

Actress and businesswoman Annie Malan at the SANSUI Summer Cup

Annie Malan

Sdu: Great body, but the dress doesn’t do it for me. Burn that curtain. What’s up with the trainers, gal?

Lesley: The sneakers are practical for a day at the horses, but fashionistas puke at this kind of vulgarity.

Paledi: Nice legs, but this is fashion murder. A floor-length frock paired with sneakers?...?really? This is a case of a lazy fashionista trying above her means to look significantly stylish.

Fashion designer Deborah Vanessa from Ghana at the Channel O Music Video Awards 2013

Deborah Vanessa

Sdu: A confused mermaid fresh out of the ocean.

Lesley: She has a great body, but this net dress is tacky and the visible black Sellotape on the breasts is embarrassing.

Paledi: Stunning body for a sheer trend. Her gorgeous hair and her demeanour oozes tranquillity. I’m loving the neon manicure.

Actress Amanda du-Pont at the Channel O Music Video Awards 2013

Amanda DuPont

Sdu: The designer deserves life in fashion prison. Who let Amanda rock that bedspread in public?

Lesley: I’ve not seen so many ruffles since Zanele Mbokazi. Yuck! At least she’s on trend with the black panties.

Paledi: There is absolutely nothing alluring about this dress. It looks like a walking curtain. I’m appalled that a stylist could sabotage such beauty.

Gerry Elsdon and author Gavin Prins at the SANSUI Summer Cup

Gerry Rantseli

Sdu: Classy, elegant…it goes well with her bubbly personality. They look good together.

Lesley: If it had gone just an inch below the knees it would have been age appropriate and season appropriate.

Paledi: Gerry looks effortlessly chic, but the edges of the sleeves are concerning.

Thuli Sithole at the SANSUI Summer Cup

Thuli Sithole

Sdu: Talking about yummy and sexy mama. Thuli looks gorgeous in this dress and it compliments her skin colour.

Lesley: Overly accessorised - the fascinator, the headband, the giant statement earrings, and that’s just the head - does Thuli fancy herself a Christmas tree?

Paledi: This is minimalism at its best, appropriate for lunch with the girls. Totally not working for a horse race event.

Lerato Sengadi at the SANSUI Summer Cup

Lerato Sengadi

Sdu: I wouldn’t want to be caught next to this duo; just in case there’s a beehive… I’m allergic. Lerato it’s about time you get clothes that are well suited for your body shape.

Lesley: From the scrap heap of the 80s fashion emerges Lerato and her friend. This is not flattering, it’s actually disturbing.

Paledi: These two look like they are on their way to a fruit salad party. The individual clothing pieces look absolutely interesting. Love the flower power Jimi Hendrix inspired shirt. The problem is that the way the pieces are worn and paired makes this a distasteful fashion faux pas.

Comedian Celeste Ntuli at the Channel O Music Video Awards 2013

Celeste Ntuli

Sdu: Her dress is not flattering at all, I hate the shoes including the lime green jacket on the floor next to her.

Lesley: A giant doilie has never been fashion forward not even by Dolly Parton’s standards, thumbs down.

Paledi: This ivory knit shift-dress is winning. I love the fact that it is cleverly worn with minimal accessories. The shoes are out of place - right colour wrong style.

Aluyce Pila shows her stuff at the Channel O Music Video Awards 2013

Aluyce Pila

Sdu: Where did she get the courage to traumatise us with a body full of potholes?…?that’s not cellulite. Invest in body contouring or grandma panties.

Lesley: Event organisers reserve right of admission. So how did they let this one in?

Paledi: This is “a famine of beauty.” A 2cm bum-chick at a red carpet event looks fashionably vulgar. She must have ended up at the awards by some miracle.
