Bees faces Blue Bulls hearing

2011-10-03 14:32

Having escaped a jail sentence last month, rugby player Bees Roux will state his case before a Blue Bulls disciplinary committee tomorrow in an effort to save his career.

Blue Bulls high-performance manager Ian Schwartz confirmed the date of Roux’s disciplinary hearing, but could not comment further as it was “an internal matter”.

Roux pleaded guilty last month to murdering a metro police officer with his bare hands.

He reportedly faces three separate charges with the Bulls, including a breach of contract after he trained with the Pumas rugby team during his trial.

The 29-year-old prop, who has previously turned out for Griquas, the Cheetahs and the Leopards, signed a two-year contract with the Bulls at the end of the 2009 season.

His agreement with the Pretoria-based rugby union ends this month.

Roux had pleaded guilty on charges of culpable homicide and driving under the influence after the murder of metro police officer Johannes Mogale in August last year.

He reached a plea bargain agreement with the State and avoided jail time.

Roux agreed to pay the victim’s family R750 000 and was given a five-year suspended sentence.
