All eyes will be on Minnie Dlamini tonight when she co-hosts the Premier Soccer League Awards at the Sandton Convention Centre.

And, to help her rise to the occasion and present some high glam, she turned to star designer David Tlale.

The TV darling gave City Press a sneak peek of what she’ll look like at the televised social calendar highlight, which counts sporting legends, government officials and captains of the corporate world as its guests.

We met at Tlale’s studio in Maboneng, Joburg, where Dlamini, without a stitch of makeup, has a private fitting with the fashion heavyweight.

She co-hosted the awards last year too, just three months into her job as an SABC sports presenter.

“This year I have to take it to the next level and I could not think of anyone better to create classic drama than Tlale. Yes, we celebrate athletes, but for that hour-and-a-half you are the face of the awards, the glue that holds the show together, so people want to see the greatest fashion.”

Tlale said he was thrilled to work with Dlamini. “Minnie has a great body and I will adorn her and accentuate what is already available. The brief is ‘Let’s show it off’.

“If you’ve got it, flaunt it. She is a bootylicious African woman, well toned,” Tlale said.

“And we need to show people in soccer and the world that you don’t have to be skinny to show off your body, because beauty starts in Africa and this is what we have as South Africans.”

Dlamini was simply delighted as a flowing gown, a three-piece suit with peplum detail and a figure-hugging dress took shape.

“It’s fun dressing up and seeing these designs conceptualised from an idea change into clothes that look regal, sexy and tough.”

Meanwhile, her spokesperson, Pumza Nohashe, moved to dispel rumours that Dlamini will be unveiled as a Victoria’s Secret angel.

A few weeks ago Dlamini tweeted a picture of herself in just a bra and panties, fuelling speculation of an association with the global lingerie brand.

“As gorgeous as Miss Dlamini’s body is, what we can confirm at this point is that she is not an [Victoria’s Secret] angel – that’s a title reserved for working models. But an official announcement will be made later in the year which is part of a number of exciting ventures she has embarked on,” Nohashe said.

Dlamini is a little nonplussed by her high profile.

“I could skip the fame part. I love my job. Getting recognised here and there is nice and great and an ego boost, but after a while it’s a bit embarrassing and gets awkward.”

She declined to comment on recent reports about her soccer star sweetie Itumeleng Khune getting into a fight with DJ Euphonik, the partner of Dlamini’s nemesis, Bonang Matheba.
